My diverse experience with a number of different populations has allowed me to hone my counseling approach in a way that’s effective for clients with a wide array of goals and experiences.
It is my belief that the best recovery plans are the ones that we feel will actually help us. Together we will develop a plan that makes sense to you and feels doable. I want you to have a recovery plan that feels consistent with your personal goals.
I use Motivational Interviewing as a way to help you keep your behavior consistent with your goals and desires. One of my functions as a counselor is to act as a ‘magnifying glass’: make observations and share my impressions about actions you could take to make even better progress toward your recovery goals.
You have strengths and skills that you can lean into to help your recovery mature. I will work with you to find those strengths and use them as powerful tools for your personal growth. I want to help you take inventory of the best things about you and how you can use those strengths to your advantage.
I am a very strong believer in the negative impacts addiction and substance abuse have on our relationship with ourselves. Over time we become our very harshest critics; which becomes a tall mountain of shame and guilt to climb over once we enter recovery. I want to help you develop skills of self-compassion. Together we will transition from being motivated by shame and fear to being motivated by love for ourselves and those around us.
There is no single ‘correct’ approach to recovery. Whether you’re looking to quit entirely, cut back for a while or simply develop a healthier relationship with substances, I am here to help you. We will monitor your success based on your specific goals, not an arbitrary idea of what recovery ‘should’ be. I am proud to work with clients from all cultural backgrounds, religious beliefs (or not), sexual orientation or gender identity.
